SafeNow is a free security app and your personal alarm system for family and friends. In an emergency, you can send a critical alarm to your private groups with just one click. The alarm breaks silent and do-not-disturb mode and broadcasts your live location during the alarm. In SafeNow zones, you can also alert the security personnel on site.
Yes, SafeNow is and will remain free - forever. Without advertising, without a premium model, without a subscription and without selling data. Our app is financed by partners who provide SafeNow zones for their guests and employees.
A SafeNow group consists of the people you select as your helpers. You can either create a group yourself and invite members or join an existing group via an invitation link.
You can activate several groups at the same time - in an emergency, all active groups are alerted simultaneously as soon as you trigger an alarm.
In a SafeNow zone, you can use the SafeNow app to directly alert local security personnel or awareness teams for yourself or others. Help can reach you faster than ever before thanks to precise location technology that even works to the meter inside buildings and hard-to-see areas.
Yes, the SafeNow app requires an internet connection via mobile data or WLAN.
Yes, you all need the SafeNow app and a shared group to send and receive alarms.
A critical alarm ensures that emergencies are not overheard or ignored and offers decisive advantages:
Only the members in your personal SafeNow groups and/or the local security personnel in a SafeNow zone, if you are in one, will receive your alarm. It is important to us that you can decide for yourself who you trust in the event of an emergency.
Only the members of your personal SafeNow groups and/or the local security personnel in a SafeNow zone, if you are in one, will receive your alarm.
After the alarm is triggered, a 3-second countdown starts, during which you can cancel the alarm. If it has already been sent, you can stop it at any time via "Stop alarm" in the app. Your helpers will be informed. We still recommend sending a brief all-clear message to the helpers.
SafeNow has set itself the goal of bringing security to every pocket. Data security and data protection are of the utmost importance to us. Our principle is to collect as little personal data as possible. Users can voluntarily provide data and delete it at any time. You can find detailed information on data processing here:
German https://www.safenow.app/de/legal/app/privacy/latest-de
English https://www.safenow.app/de/legal/app/privacy/latest-en
Press the blue button in the SafeNow app. A 3-second countdown then starts - after which the alarm is sent automatically.
If you trigger an alarm, your data will only be passed on to your group members - in SafeNow zones also to the local security personnel. This includes your name, your live location and your telephone number so that help can be provided as quickly and specifically as possible.
Tap on "Create new group" in the top left of the app, assign a name and create an invitation link. Share the link via WhatsApp, SMS or another preferred method.
For someone to join your group, the person must have the app installed and accept the invitation.
In the app menu, you will find the always-loud mode and can activate or deactivate it there. Of course, we recommend always leaving this mode switched on.
Users of iOS devices can find the authorization under:
Settings -> SafeNow -> Notifications -> Critical Alert
For Android devices usually under:
Settings -> Notifications -> SafeNow -> Alert -> Allow interruptions
SafeNow is currently available in 23 different languages:

You can see in the SafeNow app whether you are in a SafeNow zone. You will find this information at the top left of the screen. We also draw attention to this with posters on site, so keep your eyes peeled for the SafeNow logo.
You can see in the app how many helpers are responding to your alarm and where they are located.
Yes, we will ask you for your name and cell phone number when you register. You have the option of adding a profile picture.
The test mode in the app allows you to try out sending an alarm without triggering a real alarm. You can find it in the app menu.
Yes, you can track when and where an alarm was sent or ended in the alarm history in the app menu. If you have missed an alarm, you can view it there at any time.
In SafeNow zones, professional security personnel on site and/or awareness teams are alerted.
We are always happy to receive applications at application@safenow.de.
In always-loud mode, the app plays a loud alarm sound even if your phone is set to silent or "Do not disturb" . Check in the settings whether the mode is activated. You can deactivate it at any time by opening the menu at the top right and switching off the setting at the bottom.

Attention mode works like a kind of dead man's switch. It is for situations in which you feel unwell but don't want to raise the alarm immediately. To do this, press and hold the blue button in the app. As long as you keep the button pressed, you have not yet triggered an alarm. If the situation eases, you can swipe down to end the mode - so no alarm has been sent. However, if the situation worsens and you release the button, a critical alarm and your live location will automatically be sent to your SafeNow groups.
Yes, the app works worldwide and is available in 11 different languages.
The critical alarm tone is the loudest tone on the cell phone and breaks through the "do not disturb" and silent mode. So you know immediately that it is important. Unlike a call, it doesn't stop until you respond. In addition, your live location is automatically shared so that your helpers know where you are immediately. You can also alert several people at the same time with a single click. This saves valuable time and increases the chance that you will be helped quickly.
Only members of your SafeNow groups can alert you. To do this, you must first join a group or create one yourself and send invitations. This way, you retain control over who can send you an alarm in an emergency.
You can click on the gray "Cancel alarm" button at the top right. Your helpers will be informed.
You can deactivate the always-loud mode in the app at any time. To do this, open the menu at the top right and switch off the mode at the bottom of the menu. You will now only receive a notification. We therefore recommend leaving the always-on mode activated.
No, this is not yet possible.
No, SafeNow only alerts your SafeNow groups and, in SafeNow zones, also the local security personnel. The police, emergency services or ambulance cannot be alerted directly via the app.
The alarm sound stops as soon as the alarmed person clicks on the notification or opens the app.
You can now open the SafeNow app and trigger the alarm even faster via the widget. We are also working on a physical button and the smartwatch function.
Yes, the alarm also sounds on your headphones. The volume depends on the model and may vary. We recommend testing the alarm with your headphones in advance to avoid being surprised.
As the admin of the group, you can add new members. Open the desired group and tap on "Add members". An invitation link will be created automatically, which you can share via WhatsApp, SMS or another preferred method.
Open the SafeNow app, go to your groups and select the group you want to leave. Then tap on "Leave group".
Open the SafeNow app and click on the menu at the top left. Here you will find your group overview "My groups" and select the desired group. There you can change the group picture, add members or mute the group. You can also leave the group.
As soon as you are in a SafeNow zone, it automatically appears in the app above your groups.
No, this is not necessary. As soon as you enter a SafeNow zone, it is automatically displayed. The local security team will be informed if you trigger an alarm.
Yes, you can deactivate the alerting of security staff in SafeNow zones. To do this, go to the relevant zone in the app, select "Do not alert zone" and set a time period.
SafeNow zones use Bluetooth beacons, which send signals to your smartphone via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). This means that your exact location can be detected even in multi-storey buildings if you trigger an alarm. This allows security staff to find you more quickly in an emergency and provide targeted assistance.
No, your live location is only shared with the security personnel during an active alarm. As soon as you end the alarm, the location transmission also ends.
Drag the button down to "Cancel" to end the attention mode (you have not alerted anyone). Only close the app afterwards to avoid triggering an alarm accidentally.
Attention mode is ideal if you feel unsafe but are still unsure whether you need help. You can observe the situation without immediately triggering an alarm. If everything turns out to be harmless, you can simply cancel the mode. If your feeling is confirmed, simply release the button to organize help immediately.
SafeNow is financed by our partners, who provide their guests and employees with a SafeNow Zone. This enables everyone worldwide to use the app free of charge.
Your live location is only shared with your helpers during an active alarm. This allows them to quickly recognize where you are and provide you with targeted help.

The permissions are necessary for you to be able to use the app to its full extent. This allows your helpers to see your location, profile picture, name and phone number so they can help you quickly.
In the event of an alarm, your name is transmitted to your helpers so that they know immediately who has triggered the alarm and can respond more quickly. You can decide for yourself which name you enter - even just your first name is sufficient.
Your phone number is required to confirm that you are not a bot. It also allows your helpers to call you via the app in the event of an alarm and get in touch with you.
Location sharing is necessary so that you and your helpers can see exactly where the person concerned is in the event of an alarm. Your location is only shared in the event of an alarm.
This setting ensures that your live location is shared with your helpers even when the app is running in the background. However, your location will only be transmitted to your groups and/or the security personnel in SafeNow zones during an active alarm.
So that you are informed immediately if someone from your SafeNow group triggers an alarm and needs your help.
Bluetooth enables precise indoor localization in SafeNow zones. This allows security personnel to locate you (during an active alarm) to the nearest meter and help you more quickly.
Authorization to take and select pictures is only required so that you can add a profile and group picture.
